MEDIA POLICY of the HAWAII HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION
To obtain a media credential, an individual must represent an accredited agency with legitimate professional intent, follow stated event policies and access rules, and recognize that credentials are non-transferable and may be revoked at any time. Unauthorized use or violations may result in loss of access, possible removal, legal action, and/or any other action HHSAA deems appropriate.
Media bearers assume all risks; HHSAA and affiliates are not liable for injury or property loss. Credential holders indemnify HHSAA from any claims or expenses arising from their actions or breaches. The HHSAA may participate in litigation at the bearer's expense.
Distribution of game footage to third parties is prohibited without written permission; only the credentialed entity may use it. Agencies wishing alternative use must request approval. Real-time transmissions (video, digital images, audio) are not allowed and remain exclusive to HHSAA or its sites. Brief updates are allowed through the credentialed outlet.
HHSAA owns championship trademarks and copyrights; member institutions control their own intellectual property for reporting purposes. HHSAA may purchase published photographs and use them for news coverage at no extra cost.
Radio stations without broadcast rights cannot provide live reports.
Space for media operations is not guaranteed; liability is waived.
Credential holders are expected to act professionally, respect all participants, staff, facilities, and adhere to directions from HHSAA representatives. Disruptive behavior, harassment, or failure to comply with policies may result in credential revocation.
Requests for credentials should be sent to Chris Chun (chun@hhsaa.org) at least one week prior, including:
- Requestor’s full name and title
- Media agency
- Contact details and sports editor/director
